Carnation care involves the upkeep of the large selection of flowers with incredible appeal. The industry dealing with and catering to the demand for carnation arrangements has been helping people brighten their homes and offices with high-quality flowers. Carnation arrangements offer a number of advantages over those of other flowers. They can be enjoyed for a longer period of time and are virtually maintenance free when in a vase. The carnation arrangements however, are impervious to changes in temperature, humidity, and light. The carnation flower is one that has been revered for centuries, all over the world. It is also one of the world's oldest cultivated flowers and is widely appreciated for its ruffled appearance, clove-like scent, and extended blooming period. Research has revealed that the name "carnation" comes from the word "coronation" or "corone" or flower garlands. This is because it was one of the flowers used in Greek ceremonial crowns. There are those also who think that the name stems from the Latin "carnis" for flesh, which refers to the original colour of the flower. There is yet another theory that the name comes from incarnacyon or incarnation, which refers to the incarnation of 'God made flesh'. The carnation is also the symbol of love, fascination, and distinction. The light red carnations represent admiration, while the dark red denote deep love and affection. Carnations are considered the most popular florists' flowers. Since carnations are widely recognized as long lasting flowers, they are very popular as boutonnieres, in corsages, bouquets, and in a wide range of floral arrangements. Carnations are popularly favored on special occasions, especially Mother's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Parent's Day, Teacher's Day, Father's Day and weddings. The carnation flower comes from a plant native to the East and is known to have been cultivated for the last two thousand years. Its original natural flower colour is known to have been pinkish-hued, however later dedicated cultivation resulted in other colours, including red, white, yellow and green. The carnation recognised all over the world as the national flower of Spain. Although the name 'carnation' is known to be applied originally to the species dianthus caryophyllus, the name is also often applied to some of the other species of idanthus, particularly to garden hybrid varieties and other species in the genus. |
